Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do you take my insurance?
No. At this time, we do not take any commercial insurance, government insurance or any other type of insurance. Our practice uses an innovative model of healthcare known as Direct Endocrine Care. This model allows the doctor to focus on the patient rather than on checking all the boxes the insurance demands to be checked. Sitting 1 hour in the waiting room and rushing through the visit in 10 minutes or less is not the right way to address your endocrine needs. It is time to restore the traditional physician-patient relationship.
  • Why did you choose Direct Endocrine Care?
Billing the insurance requires dedicated staff members and increases the cost of running the practice. Unfortunately, physician reimbursement by insurances has deteriorated in different ways, forcing some clinicians to see a greater volume of patients per day. In addition, insurances and regulations are demanding more tasks to be completed by doctors. As one would expect, the end result of more work load, higher expenses and less reimbursement in many cases is a decrease in the quality of patient care along with physician burnout. If you are interested in reading a bit more about these topics, we have attached below a couple of interesting articles. Remember, Medicare reimbursement essentially dictates what happens with reimbursement by commercial insurers. https://www.ama-assn.org/practice-management/medicare-medicaid/another-year-medicare-physician-pay-cuts-unconscionable https://www.ama-assn.org/practice-management/physician-health/what-physician-burnout
  • How does Direct Endocrine Care work?
You pay an on-boarding fee and a monthly fee in order to enjoy the multiple benefits from our membership. Alternatively, you can pay for each individual visit with less benefits and some limitations (more details below).
  • Do you collect deductibles, co-payments and co-insurances?
No, we do not. It is worth mentioning, most concierge practices do collect them in addition to their annual fees.
  • I have Medicare or I am Medicare eligible. Can I still be a patient of the practice?
Yes. However, neither you nor your doctor will request reimbursement from Medicare for the office visits. You will need to sign a document known as advanced beneficiary notice of non-coverage or ABN. Your other Medicare benefits (medications, labs, imaging, etc) will otherwise remain unchanged.
  • Could your services be reimbursed by my FSA, HSA, MSA, HRA or out-of-network benefits?
Please ask your health insurance about this. We can provide you with a superbill if you request it, but we can’t submit the superbill directly to the insurance for you.
  • Is the membership fee tax deductible?
Please ask your tax advisor about your specific situation in this regard.
  • What if I need to cancel my membership?
Please send your request to mybrowardendo@gmail.com at least 30 days in advance to the desired cancellation date.
  • Do I need to keep my health insurance if I become a member?
Yes. You need your insurance to cover other costs including medications, laboratory studies, cytology, imaging studies, etc. Should you need a prior authorization for these, we are happy to assist. However, if any portion of these costs is still not covered by your insurance, it will be your financial responsibility.
  • Do you offer any discounts or credits?
Yes. Take advantage while they are available! - If you are paying for 2 or more membership plans for your household, each member gets a 10% discount. - If you choose to pay for 1 year of membership fees all at once you get a 10% discount (after other discounts have been applied, if applicable). - You get a one-time $50 credit for every person you refer to us (excluding your household) when they become a member with us. - You get a one-time $25 credit for every person you refer to us (excluding your household) when they schedule a service à la carte with us.
  • I am not ready to become a member yet, can I pay only for one visit?
Yes. You can choose our à la carte options. This could be a bridge until another endocrinologist in-network with your insurance can see you. It could also be a good option for patients just looking for a second opinion, or patients only temporarily in Florida. Keep in mind though, should you need a prescription, it will be limited to a 60-day supply.
  • What sets you apart from other endocrine practices?
Our panel will be limited to approx. 300 active members (traditional practices typically have a panel of 2,000 patients or more). This will allow us to provide our patients with a highly personalized and efficient care of their endocrine problems. New members will be seen within a week or two. Same day or next day visits will be available to established members when necessary, and always with Dr. Trepp. Your visits will be unhurried, with little to no time spent in the waiting room. All members will have direct access to Dr. Trepp 24/7. Refer to the different membership plans for additional features.
  • Can I use telemedicine for my visits?
Yes, we will continue to use telemedicine even if health insurances decide not to cover it anymore. We do recommend though that you meet with Dr. Trepp at least once a year for a more thorough physical examination.
  • Is Thyroid ultrasound available in your office?
Yes, Dr. Trepp (rather than a technician at the imaging center) will personally perform your thyroid ultrasound with our state-of-the-art ultrasound equipment. This will allow for better interpretation of the findings, a consistent comparison with previous studies and the opportunity for you to discuss the next step in management with the doctor in real time. If you have a history of thyroid nodules and you become a member of the practice, your yearly ultrasound will be covered. Should you need a thyroid biopsy, Dr. Trepp has extensive experience performing biopsies, and the physician-portion of the biopsy cost will also be covered by your membership. If you do not wish to become a member, you could always pay for the ultrasound or biopsy à la carte.
  • How can you help me lose weight?
At Broward Endocrine Institute, PLLC we have an intimate understanding of obesity, and how frustrating it can be for some patients and their healthcare professionals to deal with this chronic disease. We know that a ‘one size fits all’ approach is destined to fail. The right nutrition and exercise are key to improving your chances of success. We have the knowledge in this regard and the time it takes to share it with you. Should you need medication, we have vast experience prescribing FDA-approved drugs for weight loss in a way that is both safe and effective. Of note, we do NOT recommend or prescribe compounded or (generic) versions of these meds for safety reasons.
  • Can Dr. Trepp manage low testosterone in males?
Yes. However, it is important that your expectations, values and goals are well-aligned with the physician you choose to manage this problem. The scope of practice we use is aligned with guidelines by The American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists and The Endocrine Society (see links in our educational resources). The take-home point of these guidelines is that the goal for testosterone level is in the mid-normal range. For some patients, there will be no clinical benefit when this goal is achieved. That should not be a reason to use higher testosterone doses due to the risk of increasing the hematocrit among many other potentially serious side effects. If you have an enlarged prostate, history of elevated PSA or history of prostate cancer, we believe that it is in your best interest to have your urologist manage the low testosterone problem as well. Prospective patients who are not comfortable keeping their testosterone levels in the mid-normal range or plan to use testosterone for bodybuilding purposes, should NOT apply to join our practice.
